From Tech to Travel Nurse: Tammie’s Story
Meet Tammie T —
One of Spire’s illustrious travel nurses with an incredible story over over 20 years in healthcare.
Tammie T.’s journey into healthcare started back in 1999 as a scrub tech in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She quickly moved into nursing, spending time in ICU, rehab, and psych units before finding her stride in the OR. Over the years, she’s worked across specialties — from ortho to Endovascular — building a deep well of experience that’s hard to match.
In 2010, she took a leap into travel nursing. “It was supposed to be a one-year adventure,” she says. “I came home on weekends… and then it just kept going.” That one year turned into 15 — and counting.
While on assignment in Oregon, a supervisor connected her with Spire. That’s when she met Matt, one of Spire’s recruiters. “It was the fastest onboarding I’ve ever done,” she says. “And it felt different from the start.”
Tammie had worked with large agencies before, where messages went unanswered and relationships felt transactional. With Spire, it was personal. “They know me. They respond right away. I don’t feel like I’m chasing anyone. It’s just easy.”
Outside the OR, Tammie keeps life grounded and full. She’s deeply rooted in Spartanburg, SC, with family. Tammie loves working out, writing poetry, and finding quiet moments to reflect — a rhythm that helps her stay strong, centered, and ready to care for others. For Tammie, balance isn’t just a goal — it’s a lifestyle. Also, Tammie is an author! You can check out her book on Amazon here.
